I ran across this web site maintained by Ron Dexter, ASC while looking for something else. It has more information relevant to video and film than most sites on the web, a real gold mine of facts and ideas.

Absolutely! A real inspiration .. . and when he isn't using that "tripod" for filming, he could use it to paint the ceiling of the Cistene (Sistene) Chapel!

The section on DV crane hype is a good read.
Everyone wants them cause then they get to look like a real pro, except the real pros spend a lot of time learning how to use them.

Hm, I should add Steadicam rigs to that.
