You can go to the Intel site and compare the two CPUs side-by-side.

It appears that only differences are seen in "Other Intel Technologies" and the "Chipset". Evidently those differences, although they appear small, are worth another $350.

Use this link and you should be able to see them together.

Thanks for supplying the link but after looking at the comparison sheet all of the Intel stuff went right over my head. I think I will pass on the extra $350.00 or/unless all of the additional Intel stuff can be translated to speed.

From what I understand (and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong) the main difference is that the "Extreme" cpus (the ones with the "X") can theortically be overclocked higher than the non-Extreme ones. I think they start out the same, but after testing, the best ones are labelled extreme. Again, I could be completely wrong, but I think that's close. If so, if you aren't looking to achieve the maximum overclocking, then save the money and go with the Q6700.

Intel was supposed to have a major price drop on this series about now. Has it already happened?

I don't think so, but usally the day after I purchase these things they drop the price in half.
