OT: Is it worth upgrading to MS 4?

ADinelt wrote on 1/13/2005, 8:44 AM
I have recently built a new computer and am in the process of converting to Windows 2000 Pro. I was wondering if those who have upgraded to Vegas Movie Studio 4 thought it was worth it or not? Is it stable enough? How are the 3D features? Is it really backward compatable with 3.0b projects?

I have always valued the opinions and experience of the members of this forum.

Thanks in advance...
Al

I would say that the fact that you get DVD-Architect Studio more than justifies the $30 upgrade fee all by itself. Even if there were no new features in Movie Studio i would think it would be worth it.

Sorry i can't give you more specifics as i haven't done that upgrade myself. But then, since i already have Vegas 5 + DVDA 2, ugprading to Vegas Studio 4 isn't very high on my priority list right now.

I had a look at V4 when it was first released but decided against it - I don't need DVDAS as I've already got DVD-Lab and there didn't seem to be any new features that warranted it. On the other hand there were a few niggling bugs that I feel should have been picked up by a properly thought out test schedule.

Where are the niggling bugs in DVDAS?

Thanks for the info folks.

I too like DVD-Lab and have recently downloaded a trial version of DVD-Lab Pro. The posts I have seen here about problems with MS4 is what propmted me to ask if it was worth the upgrade. I am wondering about the 3d effects and the sound editing (removing pops, clicks, etc.).

I am thinking of paying for the upgrade, just so I have it, but money is scarce these days since I upgraded my son's computer and mine over the holidays. I am hoping that if I do the upgrade, then it will be worth it.

It seems like a while since there were posts about possible bugs with the upgrade; in any case, I can't remember them and I've had no problems using the upgrade.

Clearly the main reason to upgrade would be the DVD creation. It is the reason I did it.

Sorry, my post was ambiguous - the bugs I found were in MS, but 2 of them were mentioned in this thread a few days ago. I remember the problem with single frames because it's a boundary condition, and they're something that should be specificaly tested.

they actually remove some features in MS4 from MS3...

in ms3, you could export your movies as a swf.... they removed this very useful (and costly to do with a 3rd party tool) function....I hate it...had I known, I would have not bought ms4!!!

You can still keep your MS3 program as a stand alone.
