I have an Intel D875PBZ which supports 800 MHz Bus and I have a P4 3ghz w/ HT. I need matched memory to HT, does this memory look like a good choice?
TIA,
Randy
Just make sure it is 400 speed and that your Motherboard CMOS says it is at 400 and if not manually set it to 400. I have a lot cheaper memory than the Corsair but it seems to work OK in the same board that you have.
Well the reason I ask is because this memory is advertising to be 466MHz PC3700. Right now I'm running 400MHz PC3200 but it's giving me some problems and I'm sending it back. I also wonder what this means "Memory CAS Latency: 3-4-4-8" obviously latency but how does this compare to "Memory CAS Latency: 3-3-3"?
You may find you need to tweak some of the timing parameters, I'm sure no guru on that side of things but I suspectyou need to run 566MHz memory at that clock speed. Have you tried the Corsair web site?
They are big time players in the market so I'm sure they'd have heaps of info avaialble or try one of the overclocking websites.
Your best bet is visit some motherboard review sites for your particular board and see what others have done. Most boards are rated conservatively as far as how fast the memory timing can be set
The tricky part isn't just sticking in the 3700 memory sticks but fine tuning the right paramaters in BIOS. Again, with some MB's its a piece of cake, like with mine its all auto sensing. You just say overclock by 20% for example and the BIOS sets the FSB and memory timing and voltage automatically.
Well I'm pretty "happy" with the speed, I just want stablility and I'm really hoping that the memory is the problem. So do you think this Kingston 400 MHz would be the way to go?
Thanks guys,
Randy
I would say yes as the Kingston memory is much better than mine. You will
no for sure after installation as your motherboard will automatically tell you
if it recognized the memory at 400, 333, etc. If you put the 400 in and the board says its 333 it ain't right. What it tends to do is occasionally freeze the computer for no reason and then you have to shut it off and reboot. Of course it can happen even if the memory is properly recognized and the memory is defective.
Going with the hot rod ram can sometimes be a pain, if you just wan't the computer to work and don't wan't to tweak it I say go for something a little less exciting. I've had good luck with Crucial 3200 and Intel 865perl boards, another good resource is newegg.com - they have tons of user reviews for all the stuff they carry and it can prove to be very informative.
Thanks guys,

The MoBo does recognize it at 400 but V4 freezes up and I would get occasional warnings when booting up that the memory was not matched when trying to run in HT. So I changed it to single channel but still get the weird freezes etc. Can you think of anything else that could cause this? I even reformatted the OS drive and now have what I consider a dedicated V4/DVDA computer.
Thanks again guys,
Randy
I believe you have to have two memory matched sticks in channel "A" and I don't think one will work by itself. Make sure you have them in channel "A" and not "B" unless you have four sticks and in that case it doesn't matter. You have to trust what your machine is telling you. And make sure you have the latest bios upgrades.
The Kingston memory in your post is listed as being compatible with your motherboard according to the Kingston web site. That means Kingston and/or Intel has tested it and verified that it works. I would go with that. Kingston has outstanding customer support and a lifetime warrantee. Any time I’ve emailed them or called them on the phone I’ve gotten a quick response. I use the high performance HyperX series with my Gigabyte motherboard (which wasn’t tested) and they confirmed the manual settings I had to use to get it to work. My system is very stable and I was very impressed with their product and their support.
Thanks guys and sorry it took so long to get back. You're right JJ, a new update was just released and I just installed it. I have a client coming over in the morning, I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Thanks again everyone,
Randy
