OT-ish:Free Sony XDCam HD plugin for Mac/FCP?

Sol M. wrote on 6/29/2006, 5:06 AM
Seems that a free tool developed by Sony for the Mac to capture and work with XDCam HD footage is being demoed along with the latest update to FCP (5.1.1) on the Apple and XDCam HD tour.

So where's the Vegas love?

I sure hope Sony's own Vegas gets support like this from Sony by the next version, or else I'm going to feel a little left out. :(

Any news I missed on this?

I guess nobody cares that Sony's own NLE is not at the forefront in supporting Sony's gear.

I just find it troublesome that Sony's pushing a workflow that employs another NLE. Of course, it's marketing, and the guys charged with selling cameras have to do just that in any way they can. Seems to make sense tho that they could kill two birds with one stone by showing an XDCam HD workflow using Vegas, no?

I suspect the FCP workaround is no where near as elegant as their Xpri system although I haven't seen Xpri working with XDCam HD, I'm assuming it supports it out of the box.

As much as we vegas users hate to admit it, Xpri is the sony pro edit system .. not vegas. We are not the "pro" system .But anyway i figure version 7 will have support , not that I'll need it.

The reason FCP is being pushed at the moment is because XDCAM support on the Mac has been very limited until now. Mac owners have not had access to a full XDCAM workflow because the FAM functions of the cameras never worked with the same elegance as on the PC. Hence the reason Flip4Mac exists, and costs!
