Hey guys, just thought I'd let you know that DJ has Magic Bullet at 50% off, and I consider this a very handy tool for doing all of your coloring / color correction in one tool. It works in Vegas 8c (not 8.1 yet at least).
I works in Vegas. You just need to read the little box on the main product page:
"
What's New
* A revolutionary interface makes creating and customizing new looks easier and more intuitive
* More than one hundred Look presets that offer more options than ever.
* 36 new tools expand upon the previous version's 10 simple functions.
* Now includes Sony Vegas 8 support"
I have Bullet, and LOVE it. Its so much more powerful and user friendly than the Sony methods of color correcting and effects. I went overboard on purpose with my first video using it. I don't care what anybody says about it. I like it and so does the customer. Beware that it severely bogs things down and intensifies memory usage during rendering.

=============
Brad,
Is it Magic Bullet that gave the skin tones the range from orange to pale pink?
I have Bullet, and I like the potential. BUT, as stated it bogs your preview down so much that I find it unusable. I use the VASST Reelpaks for color correction instead on every project without a hint of slowing anything down.
Jay, when you save a "LOOK" it makes the thumbnail automatically FOR that place you were on the timeline.
In my opinion it is NOT a substitute for any of the colour remedies and levels that SONY and others provide.
You might also want to know that it is NOT realtime over a period of time. You get to audition/preview one frame. The Plugin to Vegas will only provide just the frame you are on.
It is a great way to develop and send ideas to Clients. It does provide a sample of WHAT you have created and you can keep and retain many many Looks you create.
For the money - it is a great lowly priced way to quickly try out ideas, with many MANY tools to exercise your creativity on.
When I saved the "look" I don't get a thumbnail. Ah! You get a THUMBNAIL of the NEW Event you are on. However that changes again, with an alternative Event/NEW Event. - My bad! But I will look further into this. . . hmmm...
Also, my "version" shows up at 1.0.3. What happened to 1.1? Could this be part of the problemYes, I have that issue too. I reported this to MB back in '08 and am still waiting for a remedy for this?
Graham, I spoke with TS at Red Giant. Regarding the apparent confusion about versions, they chose not to include the upgrade number (1.1) on the version screen. Strikes me as a stupid, lazy attitude, but what do I know...?
I sent five frame of footage to him to see if he can determine the problem. I have a sneaking suspicion it might be an issue with the mxf files.
Did Vegas Pro 7 come with "Magic Bullet Movie Looks"?
I've bought every upgrade-release of Vegas since the Olden Days when it was an audio-only environment, but I don't find Magic Bullet Movie Looks in my Vegas7 set of installation files.
If I in fact own MBML, I'll probably do the $99 upgrade... but unless it came with the Vegas7 upgrade back then, I don't seem to own it.
Anyone know whether everyone who upgraded to Vegas7, back then, should have received MBML?
Yes, “Magic Bullet Movie Looks” was part of Vegas 7 (as a separate download if I remember correctly). And it does not matter if you have installed it or not. Just purchase (upgrade to) “Magic Bullet Looks” for $99 and install it. I don’t remember if I had to enter my Vegas 7 serial number or not, but I had no problem installing the upgrade. This is a safe option if you have purchased Vegas 7 (new or upgrade).
Honestly, its two major things:
1- Myself and the other filmer didnt have cameras matched up or even close to it. The same shot looked different between the two. Big mistake. Technical error on our parts. Not UNfixable in post, but not easy sometimes either. Which leads me to...
2- I've only been doing editing for a few months, and only a month with Vegas/Bullet. I have a lot to learn. I know that. The brides skin tone was more of that fake orangey tan color. Add that to some inexperience with the camera, lighting, etc. and you get footage that doesn't match up well at all in the end.
My attempt to match up the skin tones and keep the integrity of the rest of the shot hans't been so good. Different bullet presets can change things dramatically and keeping skin tones the same throughout each shot was/is hard for me.
On a side note: I have done further color correcting since I posted that video.
Thanks to Joran for that "upgrade" info --- I've installed Magic BulletLooks and am playing with learning it.
Don't know how OFTEN I might use it, but for some situations it looks like it's going to be really handy.
pretty sure you have to save it in the folders where the looks are for it to show up in MB, I made a separate folder in mine that are "custom" and I just save mine there.
I too am a fan of Reelpaks, but MB does alright if you have a juiced up Graphics Card ( not something necessary for the Reelpaks ).
to be fair, ReelPaks are a good bit cheaper too, and if you want to make changes to the keyframes they gradually shift rather than make sudden jumps to another look.
