OT: items in recycle bin not visable.

Laurence wrote on 3/12/2012, 12:36 PM
This is quite frustrating. When I delete an item by putting it in the recycle bin (Windows 7 64bit), I can't see it in the recycle bin. All I see is an empty folder. It's there but I can't see it. I can either restore everything blindly, or nothing. Any suggestions on how to fix this? A Google search didn't help much at all.

Could be a form of recycle bin corruption. I can only suggest this fix:

I found some suggestions for Vista 64bit, but they might be relevant to Windows 7: Vista Recycle Bin

Are you sure the recycle bin is not on the secondary monitor which is not turned on?

None of these steps seem to work. I go through them but the problem remains.

I can see the recycle bin folder just fine. It just looks like there is nothing in it. If I delete something or drag it to the recycle bin, I see the trash icon change like there is something there, but when I click on the folder it appears empty. I have hidden files set to show, but I still see no sign of anything with a name like $Recycle.bin. This is one of those dumb things that is just so endlessly frustrating!

I guess i might wonder why you're looking for something you have deliberately, and presumably wanted to, delete.

Personally, one of the first things i do on all my Windows installations is to disable the recycle bin.

I must admit that I use the recycle bin (at least before this problem). I always delete things by putting them in the recycle bin, then double check before I delete them for good.
