OT:JAG

FYI folks, tonight is the episode of JAG in which you'll see the footage from the Sony HVR-Z1U intermingled with footage from 35mm film and FW900 HDCam footage. Look specifically at the shots from the helicopter with the machine gunner. Those were all shot with the Z1. Moreover, look at the shots OF the helicopter, the guy with the white helmet in the chopper (dressed like military) is the cameraman with the Z1U,

Somebody tivo it. I'm going to see the Funk Brothers tonight. (BTW the funk brothers movie was mastered in WM9. As I understand it the final version of the film is not a negative, but a large wmv final that they keep somewhere in Redmond, WA)

TIVO? Don't waste your time. It wasn't "shots" from a helicopter, but "a shot". It flew by so fast, it was maybe one second in duration. The scene was in the open, so we had to watch the whole hour hoping there were more helicopter scenes using the camera. I didn't see any. Maybe I am wrong. What did everyone else see? We were only told to watch the scene of the helicopter over the gunners shoulder.

I felt I wasted an hour of time watching a military TV show I wouldn't normally watch hoping to see the Z1U in action.

I like Jag so I didn't think I was wasting time.

But I was so interested in the show I forgot to pay attention.

I did tape it and I will freeze frame it tomorrow and check it out.

Not my kind of TV show, but I too watched baed on recommendations expecting to seeing something "good". Nada, nothing, waste of time. The "big scenes" were at the very start apparently. I didn't stick around for the whole hour so if there were more portions shot with the camera in question either it ended up on the cutting room floor or happened later.

Not my favourite show down here either and who know when that episode will make it down here but I gotta say there's some very dodgy stuff in that show. I think it's a flyby of a carrier that looks like it came off bad VHS.

Oh . . ! . . "JAG (military-speak for Judge Advocate General) is an adventure drama about . . . legal wing of officers trained as lawyers who investigate, prosecute and defend those accused of crimes in the military, including murder, treason and terrorism. . . . . " . .. sounds like it should be absolutely wonderful? No?

Hm .. All we got is Midsommer Murders & The Bill . .. oh yeah Judge Deeds too!

JAG is a military type show which covers current event topics and deals with court martials and violations of the UCMJ. If you were not in the military it all goes right over your head. But then again, maybe it doesn't. I did watch the opening shots but they were so fast I couldn't make a judgement.

The shots were in the opening 3 mins of the show. I didn't catch it as network TV out here sucks, but a friend DVR'd it, and sent stills. I hope he sends a stream. Looks like a lot more than just a "one second" shot, as he sent 6 stills from a variety of angles. We'll have them posted in the next day or so.

The top link isn't from the Z1, it's from the FW900 (00468.jpg) But the other two shots are from the Z1. The shots are significantly downrezzed, but you have the 900 to make the comparisons with.

well, I was impressed, (granted I wasn't watching on an HD TV) but I didn't see any major quality differences, nor did I see any problems with it not being able to handle the waves etc... I'm pleased with the fact that the camera I'm looking into ordering this year is so decent. =)
