I just read in another post you were skilled in electronics.

I have a pair of active studio monitors that I currently switch on/off using an X10 automation system. The x10 module is plugged in the wall and a multiplug is plugged in the module, my monitors are plugged there. This allows me to turn my monitors on/off with a remote. This means they are physically always at on, the power switch is never at off. I was wondering if this was secure for the speakers. I assume there is some sort of protection circuit behind the physical switches that are bypassed the way I open them.

It's probably not huring anything -- what you've done is moved the monitor power switch from the monitor itself to the X-10 module (BTW, you should be using appliance modules [just on/off control] for this application). Any protection and filtering that is downstream of your monitor's power switch is still in play.

I use a lamp module and use the dim function to control the monitors volume...... hehe bad joke.

I bought a 3 prong appliance module for the monitors.

Should I use any kind of protection/filtering between the X10 module and the speakers ?

The speakers shouldn't care whether they are switched by their own switch, or by the X10 switch. The appliance module is just simply a switch, just like the one on a lamp or in the wall. Using the X10 doesn't make the speakers any more (or less) susceptible to noise or power spikes (i.e., X10 does not introduce any spikes of its own that you have to worry about).

My entire house is automated with X10, on a rather grand scale (using the JDS controller, motion sensors, driveway sensors, temperature sensors, etc.). I had to re-wire quite a bit of it myself after my electrician attempted to install the X10. I just got off the phone with someone who had an electrician come in and mess up an X10 installation I did five years ago -- now nothing works.

Your situation is very simple, and you should just go ahead and use it and enjoy it!
