OT: JVC BR-DV6000U vs. Sony DSR1500a

I'm looking to get into a pro DV deck, and these two look to be (more than I can afford, but...) good choices in that price range. The JVC is a little cheaper, AND comes with component, composite, DV and Y/C. The Sony comes with DV, ability to read and record into DVCam and, of course, the Sony name.
This will be incorporated into my Vegas system as well as my ancient PVR/Speed Razor system.
If anybody had a good bit of advice, I would humbly appreciate it. -mjr

I use the Panasonic AG-DV2000 and it works great. May be another option to add to your list?

We actually just had to rent one of the Sony decks (DSR1500) and it is actually a really nice deck for the price. The only things we didn't really like about it is there are no analog inputs and no SDI line, but it is still a really good deck for playback and for firewire recording using vegas, we are now looking into purchasing one.

B&H has the for around $4500, while teh JVC is in the neighborhood of $3300. Guess my question is whether the Sony will be more of a workhorse and is it worth the extra i$1200!. THat's the price of a cheep DV deck. Thanks for the input. -mjr

I have an older JVC DV600 with 1394/component/Svideo/Composite/422/332/12volt and more. It's an excellent deck. I'd buy the JVC. You get much more for your money.
Also they play DVCAM and you can use full size DV for the length.

I too use the older JVC D600 and its a workhorse.

I use it as an input switcher, by connecting betacam to the component inputs, s-video and composite inputs have VHS, etc. I then let the deck transcode my analog signal to 1394...both in and out.

I also use the deck for a source unit for DV into Vegas and as a mastering deck deck out of Vegas.

I also use the deck for a DV source machine for my older RS422 hybrid NLE and it works great there too.

Can't say enough for this deck. AND with the new decks, they can handle larger tapes as well as DVCAM.

We purchased the JVC 3000 deck for our second location's new Vegas system.

FWIW,

David
