OT: JVC SR-VS30 questions

We're looking at getting a pair of these to go into our new student Vegas suites. We already have the BR-DV3000Us in our dpsVelocity suites (276 min.tape loads come in very handy for day-long seminars) and are very happy with them - but they're also twice the price of the SR-VS30.

I read the post from May of this year where both filmy & bakerbud9 had high praise for it.
First of all, do you still feel that way?
Secondly, does the on-board "TBC" handle poor quality VHS tape reasonably well. I'm not expecting the quality of the Canopus ADVC-300 but I'd like to know that, when a student brings in a tape that's been re-used several times, that it won't drop frames like crazy. Students are notoriously cheap and our AV department still has a few VHS camcorders for them to use when the mini-DV's are all booked up, hence my concerns.
