OT: "Kath & Kim" makes editors redundant

"Kath & Kim" is my current favorite soap. I have not seen it in US so if you do not know this program it's a sort of Australian "Mary Hartman".

Every editor need see this show for the simple reason it appears to have no edits. It breaks all the rules and looks just like an unedited home video - but to me, it works. Check it out.

"Mary Hartman" was without a doubt the funniest show ever on television.

Can we catch it online somewhere?

"Kath & Kim" does show in the US. On IFC if I remember correctly.

Michael, I guess you see a higher quality of home movie than, as a rule, pass by me. Just from memory I don't recognise your "appears to have no edits" but I'd have to get the DVD to assess that. Certainly it is edited (by Stephen Robinson), so what you're pointing to is a naturalistic editing style.

Serena: Yes exactly. There was sarcasm in my post that was obviously not to obvious.

I think it is very skillful how a style that looks like a home made movie with regard to the camera work looks so pro. I'm really hooked on this show for now.

Actually, it's not IFC. It was the Sundance channel, I discovered today.

There is clearly editing. Lots of long sequences, but many cuts. Editing is definately part of the production.

Some of the Aussie dialog is hard for me to follow. Nothing wrong with that, but I was reminded, it's one of the reasons I didn't continue watching the show.

I think my post got misunderstood. Of course "Kath & Kim" is edited. My meaning was that the style of camera shooting with its lack of finesse, was such that with good planing. I thought I could shoot it just as shown.

Ah, in one take. As in "Russian Ark". I think in K&K they were using the reality doco style (as in "Edwardian House", et al).

Watched a bit of it on the weekend. The cam work looks sort of doc style with handeld panning kind of stuff but definately lots of cuts for POV.

BTW I was wrong. In the US it is on Sundance, not IFC.
