OT: kinkos quote on printing V5 manual

slambubba wrote on 4/22/2004, 12:51 PM
for vegas 3 & 4, i just printed my manuals at home and had kinkos bind them for around $5. i just called them and asked what it would cost to print a ~350 page color PDF double-sided, which would be 175 physical pages. the guy gave me a quote of $176.50! i'm sure b/w would be a lot cheaper, but i like the color. looks like the inkjet will be getting a workout.

I made the same call to Kinko's out here in Brea CA and got the same ridiculous price for printing the manual. I'm printing it right now single sided on my HP Inkjet and am going to let Kinko's bind it for $5. That is the way to do it.

$176.50 for a 350 page manual, in color, is an incredibly good price. Best price I can get on small run color out here is about $0.90 a page, (i.e., $1.80 for both sides). B&W, of course, can be done for $0.05 to $.10 per page. Binding extra.

I had Kinko's print out the V4 manual in B&W, double-sided and comb-bound. Cost me $38 and is perfectly legible.

B&W copying is $.10 / page; color copying is $1.50 a page. Inkjet print cartridges are $40-$70, worn-out print heads usually require you to replace the entire printer at $70-600. Do the math, and ask yourself, "How much do I care about color printing?"

I think if they can't even include one with the program if you buy it, they should at least make one available for purchase for a reasonable price. I hate it when software companies can't even print out a manual for you and just stick a .pdf version on the disc.

Sony/SoFo should be offering it for $20-$30 for
all the people that have purchased Vegas 5.

...gave me a quote of $176.50!

Naw ... I went to Kinkos (here in Dallas) and had the V5, DVDA2, and the "New Stuff" doc (about 60 pages) printed (b/w) and spiral bound (each individually) for about $80.

.... depends on which side of the pond you live.

"Colour" is Queen's English.

"Color" is standard Yankee-Doodle American.
