I just bought SureThing after I tried out the trial version and I like it alot.
Very simple to use for any printers. The cost was $34, but the trial version is for 15 days.

I thought you were looking for General Labeling software, not CD / DVD labeling. For CD / DVD labels, I use Acoustica. It's cheap, but plenty powerful and comes with tons of templates and graphics.

I'm still using an old 2.0 version of Pro Venture Label Maker. It can use the usual mailing list type data base files and lots of options for field (including multi-field boxes), printing alignments. printing options for selection any label on a sheet for one-offs, a few or the entire sheet. I used this extensively when I was doing a lot of educational cassette series masters for a client. I still use it for mailing labels and stuff.
It is now distributed by Avanquest

For CDs and DVDs I use MediaFace II another old program. Label Maker does discs too but I prefered MediaFace for discs

I've just used Word/OpenOffice for simple lablels. Not that hard.

For simple DVD labels I use the program that came with the printer.

TheHappyfriar, I have used Word, but I want something that I just set the label type and enter the text and it formats and allows me to print one or so labels.
Thanks

Dave, if it is for packages or large envelopes and mailing in the US, I go to the USPS website and print my label with postage there. Doing so saves a bit on postage and you get a tracking number too. You can get blank labels from USPS but I just print on standard paper and tape it to the package.

I use this free software. There's an online version too if you prefer that. Obviously, only good if you use Avery labels like me. ;-)
