OT: Live event streaming

Jessariah67 wrote on 10/15/2009, 1:42 PM
Hey All,

I've got a 6-day event that we are shooting and the client wants the event to be streamed live on their website. Any tips on how to get this done? Or companies you've used/know about that are reasonable? Most of the places I've seen do monthly plans, and this is a one-time thing.

Thanks for any help.

Search recent past posts on Wirecast.

Works great, less fattening.

Call Philip Ly at www.idostream.com, the number is 860-681-5414. His business is primarily providing streaming video services for wedding videographers, but he has a commercial/industrial division as well. I use his commercial streaming services all the time for global webcasts ranging from a couple of hours to conferences lasting four or five days. He also provides the software you need and live web-based and telephone support during the webcasts. The price is incredibly reasonable and has turned into a healthy additional revenue stream for me. I have been 100% satisfied, tell him I sent you.

A few questions:

1. Is the location at the client's office that you can use their LAN connection?
2. How many viewers expected?
3. What resolution? (figure out the kbps for each viewer)
4. Would their internet connection support the total number of viewers?
(5 256kbps would be the same as a T1 line or 1.5Mbps)
5. Windows Media Encoder software (free from Microsoft can support
5 simultaneous viewers)
6. Does the location have internet that can support at least 768kbps
sustained upload? (so you can get it to a multicast provider such as
those mentioned above?
7. I have a provider that uplinks via satellite but fairly expensive if you don't
have a fast upload speed. I also know how you can get it distributed by
satellite via small receiving dishes but hourly is around $300 plus install
setup of the small dishes at each receiving location.

Tikilive.com (free)

The OP stated that his client wanted to stream the video from their web site. Tikilive and uStream are indeed free, but you must go to their web site and use their player. The webcasts I produce using IDoStream are imbedded onto my clients website with my client's own branding.
