> They're still doing betas??? Boy... are they behind the times!
I am extremely disappointing in M-Audio's support (or lack there of) of Vista 64. I thought for sure they would have drivers by now and I was eually shocked that my Presonus FireStudio audio hardware didn't have Vista 64 drivers either. :(
> at least they're public now!
Amen. My Vista64 partition has been sitting dormant while my XP partition is getting shakier and shakier (it's at the stage now where you would normally format and start over... very quirky). I can't wait to test these when I get home tonight. It may be time to start using the Vista64 partition as my main platform. (Uhh... now I'll have to start reinstalling all of my software on Vista64... another weekend down the drain) ;-)
Sweet! Thanks for the link Kenny... JR, I won't be home for an hour or two yet, so maybe if you could, throw up a post on how it works if you get the chance? I cannot wait to disable my Realtek audio for good!
I got it working for my M-Audio Firewire 410. It didn't work straight away though. I installed the drivers and it asked to reboot the computer. After a reboot it did a firmware update but Vista 64 still didn't recognize the device. I then proceeded to reboot again making sure that power was recycled on the FW-410 but that still didn't work. I then went into the Device Manager and saw the yellow exclamation point next to the M-Audio FW-410 and it said that the drivers weren't loaded, press to Reload. Once I pressed the button it reloaded the drivers and the device came alive! Yippee!
The M-Audio Control Panel seems to work. I opened Vegas Pro 8.1, Vegas Pro 8.0, Sound Forge 9.0, Cinescore 1.0, and ACID Pro 7 and set them all to use the ASIO driver and it all seemed to work fine. I even did some recording in ACID Pro 7.0 and worked a expected.
I looks like it's time to move all of my applications over to Vista 64. (way cool)
I'm still using an MAudio Quattro USB, and don't have any realistic hopes that they will ever release 64 bit drivers for this, so in preparation for the OS change and a new purchase, would you recommend to stay with MAudio, and if not, who's better these days? I'll propbably be looking for an 8 in / out card.
There's a large range to choose from these days including several mixers that'll do duty as a mixer and multichannel recording devices.
One such that's caught my eye is the ZED R16. Unfortunately that unit isn't cheap with local prices around AUD4K (bugger) however there's smaller units around at correspondingly lower price points.
M-Audio have an expanded range as well, something from them could well fill your needs, My Firewire 410 is still going strong.
My problem is I've nearly bought something with 8 mic ins several times and then I'm glad I didn't because the group I work with needs more than 8 channels to record so I'm still stuck with the house mix which is never ideal.
Yes, the ZEDR16 looks nice, but probably more than I need. I don't get involved much in field or band recordings - mainly for my own multi instrumental creations here.
My Quattro includes midi interface, which is important, so whatever I get needs this, or else I'll need a dedicated midi I/O as well.
I've use M-Audio stuff ever since they were Midiman, so I may well stay with them - in fact the Firewire 410 may be just the thing, now that there are beta Vista 64 drivers for it.

I would not buy M-Audio if you are serious about Vista 64. Their lack of commitment is underwhelming. Most of their product line still does not have Vista 64 drivers after a year now. There is just no excuse.
Also NONE of their MIDI Controllers support Vista 64 either. I was just about to buy an M-Audio Axiom and I'm glad I didn't. I will probably pick one up from Roland or other company that has x64 drivers.
I would look at the PreSonus FP10. It is 24-bit/96k 8x8 (10x10 with S/PDIF). It was the same price as my PreSonus FireStudio and had I been thinking ahead I would have picked this up instead because the FireStudio I bought just a few months ago doesn't support Vista 64. :(
Thanks Johhny.
From what you say about the FireStudio, a recent purchase not supporting Vista 64, are PreSonus any better than M-Audio, who now have beta drivers for the Firewire 410, which has been around for a while ?
> are PreSonus any better than M-Audio, who now have beta drivers for the Firewire 410, which has been around for a while ?
I haven't used the PreSonus enough to say. The M-Audio FW-410 has been solid for a number of years for me but in Vista 64 it is not. I've had several occurrences yesterday and today where it has stopped working and I have to disconnect it and reconnect it. So while they have Vista 64 drivers... they're kinda flaky (in all fairness they are still beta).
