I am looking to buy a laptop for Vegas editing as well as other stuff. Many of you use McBookPro (with bootcamp). Some might have also used Sony VAIO AR series. I am debating between these two. I would like your input that should help me in my decision making process. Thanks
I've just bought the Vaio VGN-AR51SU - BluRay writer, ExpressCard reader, 2.4Gz Core 2 Duo, 2x250GB disks in RAID0. Can't compare it to a McBookPro, but it's an impressive machine, with 17" full HD screen!
BTW, I'm connecting with my main number-crunching desktop using the 802.11n wifi connection - no problems streaming the EX1's 35Mbps stuff.
Is there any reason for you to use any Apple programs?
IMO, I much prefer the build quality of the MacBook Pro to the new Sony Vaios - My last experience on a Vaio was a year or so ago but it felt cheaply made in comparison to the couple I owned in the late 90's.
There are many benefits to a machine that will run both Win / Mac Operating Systems nowadays in this industry - Apple tends a cost a bit more on the laptop side but I don't plan on going back to a straight PC-only solution.
I'm running a standard MacBook (not Pro). 1.83ghz core 2 duo proc, 1.25gb ram. I'm able to edit HDV without dropping frames. Surprised the heck out of me.
