Public Service Announcement for an organization that helps the hungry in New York:

How it was done:

Quite remarkable in how it was shot and created.

Even though it was shot with a camera that's in a lot of pockets, the way it was shot I don't think too many people would have known to do. And the homemade accessories were priceless...

Still, this setup can be reproduced by anyone (and I'm sure it will be).

On a slightly simpler level, a lot of people could do it without spending more than a few hundred dollars for software.

Nothing unique about the rig, I discussed something similar with George Miller a few years back for doing Steadycam shots in a virtual studio. As it was all CGI the issues were not only getting camera tracking data but also realtime preview to the steadycam operator. Probably all too much and the idea never made it.

On a different note I found this last night. About the only thing I can afford in shot or not are the Q Tips. I am somewhat encouraged by the number of the younger generation who are buying uber expensive hand crafted watches.

That was shot on an ARRI D21, which has become popular here in the U.S. for TV shows:
V (ABC), Community (NBC), Lie To Me (Fox), Nurse Jackie (Showtime), Bored To Death (HBO), and Supernatural (CW).

Biggest standout is that it has an optical viewfinder instead of the usual LCD/CRT/etc.

Totally different feel when shooting, and it allows for better aesthetic decisions in many cases imho.

Oh, and you can see booms and other distractions before they show up in the frame.

Today the "in" people are all wearing mechanical watches instead of the plebeian quartz ditto.

It seems only yesterday that hipsters paid $2,000 for brutally ugly LED display watches where you had to push a button to see what time it was....
