OT.. mdv audio skips

A guy brought me about a dozen tapes that he wants me to make into a video for him. A couple of the tapes were recorded in lp and 12 bit. When I play them the audio occasionally skips. If I rewind and play again it will skip in different spots. Is there any way to fix this or is it just a lost cause? Did the lp recording or the 12 bit cause this to happen?
Thanks for your time
Gary

Shouldn't be either one causing a skip. 12 bit isn't all that great, but it also shouldn't be causing a skip. Can you see skips/blanked spaces in the timeline? What sound card are you using? It might be skipping in the upsample.

I had not captured any of the footage in question. I was just viewing on a tv screen thru a gl camera. When you have the screen settings visable you can see the 12 bit signal come and go. I went ahead and captured a section of the footage. There are no spaces in the time line. It is much better than it played thru the tv, it still has a few audio blips but I am sure he can live with it. Maybe the better quality fire wire going to the computer helped. Never ran into this before.
Thanks
