OT: Menu Limits

Is there a limit to how many menus one can have on a DVD? For example, we know we can only have 99 chapters per title. Is there a similar kind of limit to the number of menus that can be put on a DVD? We have a goofy project issue, and multiple/multiple menus may be a way to take care of the client's needs providing we can put enough of them on a DVD. How many? Probably between 150 and 200.

Max number of menu pages for DVDA 4 is 1023 as per manual.

In addition to ECB's number of menus -- don't forget that you are limited by DVD Spec to 1gb per VTS -- so if you have motion menus taking up alot of space, you might not be able to fit that many menus (depending on how the motion menus are encoded), and the layout of your project...

Thanks EB. I looked in the help files. Never even thought about looking in the manual. Duh!

Thanks George. I did find the 1GB limit in the DVD-A help files after I posted my question. Still wasn't sure if there was a limit to the number of menus allowed. Good to know both of these. I have a client that wants to make a DVD that works like a PowerPoint presentation. Having all the slides as menus would work that way, but I'm leaning more towards putting them all on the Vegas timeline and making titles out of them. They can be split into disciplines, and that will get me around the 99 chapter limit.

The disadvantage is a finite amount of time has to be supplied to each slide so that the longest someone talks can be covered. Having each slide be a menu would eliminate that issue, but navigating between them would be more cumbersome, and not as elegant as there would be a need for buttons.

Have to wait and see how serious they are about doing this. Thanks again, and thanks again to ECB.

If you're doing it linear, a picture comp would work. Might be able to add BOV but that could be a pain. For menus and picture comps there are limits in the DVD spec as well you might want to keep in mind.
