I know that HD DVD and Blu Ray are still not at the market forefront. But I just read this article and thought it sounded like a good method for distribution at only 3 cents more production cost than standard DVD discs. However, this seems to be good for those who will be using production houses to make their products, but for those of us who burn our media- can you imagine having a disc with multiple layers for each format and then having to encode and burn once for blu-ray, encode and burn for hd-dvd and then encode and burn for DVD. I would assume that some time in the future if this does take off, then there would be a market for a "multi-format" burner, but that still does not solve the problem of the multiple encodes. I guess I am jumping a head of myself as there are no current software providers making true HDV burning programs out there.
Anyways, here is the article
