OT: My new Big Knob

Spot|DSE wrote on 8/22/2004, 8:40 PM
Ahh....what a great day. All my adult life I've wanted a big knob, and today it came. A friend sent me a big knob for my birthday. A Mackie Big Knob.
Gone is my Griffen knob, gone is my mixer next to my NLE system, Gone is the big footprint. Here is my small box with a huge Big Knob that not only controls my volume with an analog knob that feels very heavenly and smooth, but it also can accept various inputs from my audio card, not to mention having a talkback to the V/O room. No more mic on my desk either, cuz you can talk directly into my new Big Knob.
I feel a review coming on. This is such a fun new toy, even though it makes no sounds nor creates cool vid. But my desk is cleaner. They say that's a sign of a more organized mind.

Hey dude...

Can we get a screenshot of your "clean" setup now? I'm really considring this piece of gear. I saw 6 outputs correct? A person can setup their outs for a 5.1 room too right?

Hope all is well. Happy Birthday Bro!!! My birthday just flew by as well on 8/16. Right when I was getting used to 30 came 31 out of nowhere...;)

Ed.

BTW...Here is the site if anybody is interested...

Happy Birthday Spot. Glad to see you got....naaah...what you wanted. Looks like a cool tool. Reminds me of a directors console. What does it cost?
Aloha,
Randy

yeah, you can set up for 5.1 with this. It's not designed for it, but with 6 outs, you can do so, and be able to switch on/off any pairs you'd want to disable. I'm setting this one up for stereo with a sub on/off switch, and my center/rear speaks won't go through the Knob. I'll tune the room volume for rear/center based around a preset volume on the Knob so my front/rears will always be matched so long as the Knob is at the preset.

Knob costs around 320.00 or so. Heavy lil' thing. But with the built in electronics, heavy box, it needs to be. I'm off to the fabricator to get a set of rack ears made for this, and then I'll upload an image.
