OT: My Summer Job? To Use Sony Vegas!

Yes, you've read that correctly, kind of.

I've been offered a position at Forest Home to create and produce media all summer long for the thousands of students who come up; this involves producing videos nearly every day for eleven weeks. This means I get to play in Sony Vegas nearly every day, with new source video and audio material every day, all summer long, while getting paid. This is one of those dream jobs.

This is fantastic news for me, because early this year my car broke down once and for all, and I found myself without a job. I made a stab at an entrepreneurial endeavor, writing my own Torrent Tracker Software (freeware), but even with the paypal donation I knew that would not pay the bills. While I was immobile, looking for work, I even had to sell my computer. I still had my Sony Vegas box, and I had and have been using a buddy's computer to keep up with the online life, and offer support for the tracker.

Well, I had my video and programming skills, and I got a few gigs here and there. Now I've got everything payed for and I've made a big investment (although i got a great deal) to purchase a Dell Inspiron E1705. It has an Intel Core2 Duo T7200 (2.00GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 667 MHz FSB), 2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz, an 80GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive, a 256MB NVIDIA(r) GeForceTM Go 7900 GS Video Card, shown on a 17" Wide Screen XGA+ TFT Display with TrueLife. I leave June 7th and return sometime in early September.

I just wanted to share that with everybody, cause well, I'm just very happy.

Thanks everybody, I'm very excited and I can't wait for summer to start. I also can't wait to start using Sony Vegas on my new laptop.

Grazie, thank you too - I'm not sure how I can bring in the help of these forums, but maybe I will post some stills after the first week (if I have access to the internet) and you can make some color correction recommendations.

I'll post the montage videos online for you all to critique. Of course, how great can a weekly montage ever really be.

Jonathan Neal - I just purchased that same laptop/specs from DELL. I hope it will serve us both well.

Congratulations on the new job! It's awesome to get paid to do what you love. Especially when you get to use the tools you love. I've always had to know/learn other tools/NLE's to get employment. I currently work with Vegas, Premiere Pro, & FCP. Before that it was strictly AVID.

Do a good job this summer and hopefully you'll become their Video Guy.
