OT: need RAM recommendation

Erk wrote on 6/26/2004, 11:21 AM
I'm looking for advice on quality RAM brands. Compusa has a deal on Centon sticks (512 PC2700 DDR) for $69 after rebate, but I don't know anything about that brand. Ditto for PNY -- Best Buy's offering $59 after rebate.

I'm willing to spend more for better quality/reliability RAM.

I'm currently using a 512mb stick of Nanya PC2700 DDR with WinXP, an Asus A7V33 mobo.

Thanks,

Greg

I would avoid "cheap" memory. It only costs a litter more to get name brand and the extra peace of mind is worth it.

Read this:

Corsair is a decent brand. So is Micron (they are a major manufacturer) Samsung is good, but my favorite is probably Mushkin for some time the favorite of the PC enthusiasts and Overclocking community. It costs a little more, but since your memory is involved with everything to do with your computer its worth it.

I like Micron. I got Micron DDR for my p3 (didn't listen to the recomended brand of ram in the MB). Since it worked, I've gotten that for my old P3 & my AMD (workedon both). They are relatively cheap too.

When I worked, for some 6 years, in computer stores, we sold almost nothing but PNY memory with our off brand computers. Don't remember ANY of it going bad. Now that I work at the university labs we use it almost excusively. The only time we don't use it is if there is some strange type that PNY doesn't make, which is very seldom.

Here is my vote for Mushkin. I have bought many sticks from them over the past several years and have never had a problem.
