there was a link I found on the DELL forums (gone now) about this class action law suit pending against DELL for their design flaws in their line of inspiron laptops ranging a wide list of laptops Inspiron 5150's to Inspiron XPS laptops and on and on. Anyway, the direct link to the page where you can get involved is Here.
It is in currently involving Inspiron 5150's but they had list of other laptops that they want info on and then said that even if your laptop is not in this group "let us know."
So if you have been suffereing from these problems contact them and get involved.
1. Repairs to resolve messaging code M1004, which is a message that the 5150 is programmed to display if it shuts down to prevent system damage;
2. Heat sink replacements;
3. AC adapter replacements necessary to resolve “insufficient power” and “cannot identify power source” messages; and
4. Motherboard replacements that are necessary to resolve “no power” or “shutdown” situations.
Currently My cousins XPS M170 is a brick that is unuseable because of the defect with the faulty motherboard. I've got an Inspiron 9100 that has gone through one Adapter already and once that happened I put my laptop on a desk and it became a desktop except in rare occurances. Eitherway - it needs to be made right and If I had a friend and they new and didn't tell me I'd be put out - so consider this one friend telling another about an opportunity to get their machine made right.
