OT: New Frezzi On Camera HID light

We got out Frezzi Micro HMI last week. For those who need a bit more punch from a very light weight light this light is worth a look at. It's small enough to fit onto even a palmcorder. I would not consider the optional little softbox optional at all, not at a wedding reception :)
It's not really enough light to provide fill in full sun but in outdoor shadows it's adequate. The unit takes around 30 seconds to reach full power, needs a filter for tungsten balance and is not the most flattering light. It will not fill a wide 16:9 frame. Really more for ENG or for fill but it could be just the thing for some.

I have no idea of price, I'd say it'll not be cheap.

Bob.

That has to be the smallest HMI light ever.
$559.00 US.
A lot for 10 watts!
I have the Mini Frezzi, a tungsten light.
Comes in handy as a small fill light, or to highlight eyes or hair in talking head interviews.
Use it with an AC adapter and not so much on the camera.

It's 15 watts actually.
Totally blows the tungsten Frezzi lights out of the water, For the 15watts the HID is using you're getting the same amount of light that a 50W tungsten lamp provides.
Keep in mind that the tungsten lamp needs a filter to match daylight and the comparison is more like 15W compared to 100W.

Speaking of lights, I used a couple of these at an event this past weekend and they were great! I got them off Amazon (sign up for the card and you basically get one free). They can attach to each other and fit on my shoe adapter. They are also chargeable.

I couldn't recommend them enough... and they are cheap. Sure, they are not for demanding color situations, but they are great for low light receptions, interviews, etc.

Jeremy, I've been lusting over this lamp since I saw it . . . .

I can't find it in the UK. I have sent an email to SIMA's HQ for purchasing advise. Having read your post it has fired my enthusiasm again for it. It is just such a neat and affordable solution - well at least I'd like to try to find out.

As an assist for you guys/galz considering http://www.simaproducts.com/support/files/SL-20LX_video_light_user_manual.pdfhere is the PDF on it.[/link]

No comparison at all!

Seriously you can use the Frezzi for fill outdoors, just, if the talent is in a bid of shade. All the LED lights, even the uber expensive Zylight are simply useless against the sun. You need a lamp with a ball of plasma in it to go into battle against that big ball of plasma in the sky.

Heck, we've got two Joker Bug 200W HMIs and crews use those as on camera lights. Of course they got pretty big cameras :)

We came back from NAB with quite a few LED lights, I think we'd have bought more but excess baggage and all.... Really they're all much the same, some have a bit more of a green cast than the others. Some have more or less LEDs, some use different batteries. The two Prompter People ones (128 & 256 LEDs) we got came with mounts for Sony batteries but you can have them with Canon battery mounts. They're still not cheap and yeah, they have a green cast.
