OT - New Little Vid

This was just a quickie I did cuz the musician (Zhenya Kolykhanov) really impressed me when I went and saw him perform solo at a place here in Austin. Was totally impromptu but still kinda dig it. I notice I'm going through some weird color phase in some of my stuff, I'm sure it'll pass but for now I'm liking the vivid over saturated somewhat unnatural look. =)

Excellent, Ray. I especially like the logic behind the split screen--it was evident the first time it appeared what you were doing!

Brother, you never cease to amaze me with your work!

Very good editing. The only suggestion that I would make is that the cuts should occur on a downbeat instead of asynchronous to the music.

Very nice, Ray.

I like the Rocket Man very much - man a good job !! :-)
In the old VHS days I did arround 50 songs this way with a CD player in the field outside and the guy 'singing' and then sync it up to his actually CD afterwards. As performer you really have to stick close to the content - theese 2 really do that, great job.

Far to kind Jay, thrilled ya liked it.

Steve, I hear ya man and totally respect your opinion but I really just cut when/where it feels there ought to be one, if it feels right to me I go with it. Though I'm aware of the rules I just don't like to follow em too much. That said I understand everyone might not agree with the choice I make. =)

Ulf, thanks for taking a looksie!

He replayed it a handful of times so I could get additional angles and then in post I used black and white and split screen to denote the parts that were being looped.Ah-ha! So he did play more than one take? Mutts - Great Stuff! Nearly cacked meself when I saw that HUGE bass come on. Was that just ONE note he played? Marvellous!

Mutts, I like your energy to get the "job" done!

Very nice work Ray - and I like your story of how you slung up the black blankets and shot - such unrehearsed occasions often produce something unique.

I'm getting into the same technology myself, with a looping pedal that can not only be used to produce layers of different instruments live, but can also contain backings I've composed using midi in Acid Pro.

The only limits these days are time and imagination ...... but maybe that's always been true!
MUTTLEY wrote on 1/2/2009, 10:36 AM

Yea Grazie, only got one EX1 so hadto shoot it multiple times to get angles but rest assured the audio is straight from one take, he actually does all that! Its incredible to see live.

leslie, man I'm an insecure bastage so trust me when I say appreciate every compliment I can find! Thanks man.

Peter, congrats on the pedal. Like I said in the description I've seen em used before but never with classic instruments, totally opened up my eyes on the potential. Zhenya has really masted the art and totally blew me away the way he constructed this on the fly.

Wow, I liked that a lot. What sort of filters are you using? Is it like a Magic Bullet filter? Nice job.

Ray, great video. Loved the split screen and the use of b&w. Very nice. JM

Great job Ray, I like the "old world" look you did.

I also loved "A parody of me" you look and act twisted (in a nice way) like my kid brother. I couldn't help but laugh. Oh no, can this world really have two of you running loose?

Great stuff, inventive editing. One-take, that's cool (I'm a musician, so I can appreciate that).
And,man, what an unusual bass this guy has!

Smash, ayuppers, Magic Bullet Looks. =)

Thanks mountain and Avanti. And happy to be considered anyone's "kid" anything!

Agreed Sonic. I forgot to ask him the name of the instruments so I can mention em in the description. I'll work on finding that out.
