AMSTERDAM, Netherlands - Philips Electronics has launched the world's first 16-speed DVD writer, which can burn a disc in less than six minutes, the Dutch group said on Tuesday.
It's cool that their coming out with faster single layer DVD burners, but it just really doesn't make sense when they're trying to push the newer dual-layer format at the same time (which hasn't yet progressed past 2x burning).
Unfortunately by the time there are actual 16x DVD+/-R's for sale, they'll be pushing the newer "faster" burners.
Hey, they can push fast burners all they want. They did the same thing with CD burners, and they became as expensive as toothpicks because people were buying them. :)
