OT - NEX-5

Anyone shooting with a Sony NEX-5?

I'm thinking of trying one for a higher-quality ultra-compact video solution, but all the mts samples I can find look really soft. There's some talk that the early review models had defective lenses, so I don't know if current cams are better or not. Would love to download a few short 1920/60i sample mts files if anyone feels like sharing...

I was going to get a NEX 5 too.
But from changing my little point-and-shoot from TX9 to TX100V - I see that SONY's sonsor technology has developed immensely in the last half year. The sensors are both sized 1/2.x " but the new one is so much more photosensitive and so low on noise that I have decided to wait for the soon coming NEX successor - hoping that it will have the same new sensor technology - even if its sensor is much larger, of course.
Besides I an pretty sure that the NEX successor will do 50/60progressive and probably at 28 Mbps as many other new SONYs do that.

For video, the sensor should be large but also contain only so many pixels as needed for the intended format (so for 1080p, closer to some 3 Mpix rather than 14 Mpix)...Otherwise, expect lower sensitivity, sharpness and more aliasing in video!

I would (and have...) get a Panasonic GH2 instead. No brainer for me. When i tried the NEX-5 autofocus is soooo slow...

I'd love to see a dedicated vid cam with a native-res sensor in the NEX format--just sensor and lens. This would be such a potent tool for compact applications. Kind of frustrating right now, because actual products on the market just don't deliver what the available technology could offer...

About 1 or 2 years, I bet, and everything will be different. How's that for a prediction? :)
