OT: Next Gen BR Players to have Flash

"Adobe and Intel turned heads in the TV and internet industry today when they announced a new partnership to bring Adobe's Flash to TVs using Intel's Media Processor CE 3100, a chip geared for next-generation entertainment centers. Adobe is looking for new platforms to extend its Flash product already dominant on the internet, and has already been reported to be moving to bring Flash to Blackberries and other smart phones. And while some companies like Apple insist Flash is insignificant, if it is Adobe certainly hasn't gotten the memo."

Fully article here.

I find it very difficult at best to get excited about anything Adobe tries to cram down our collective throat.

" And while some companies like Apple insist Flash is insignificant,"

At this stage of the game... EVERYTHING is insignificant.

One of the reasons I believe things like DVD and MP3 are doing so well is simply because Joe public has had a belly full of this technology change every 5 and a half minutes. Frankly it's starting to piss me off as well

My advice.... who cares about flash! It will be like everything else... here today... gone tomorrow. You might as well settle in with what you know and like because there is no guaranty on any of this.

my question is what is it's intended purpose?

Know what I see flash being used for now mainly? FORCING a person to watch an ad. I go to a commercial site of a company now a days & want to watch a video on a product, and I'm forced to watch an AD before I can watch the video about the product. Talk about a turn off!

I don't see the big deal. BR players and HD-DVD for that matter, both support H.264, which the current version of Flash now also uses. All they are adding is the ability to open the Flash wrapper, unless I am missing something here. Also, considering that for the longest time Intel worked with MS to kill BR in favor of HD-DVD, I would take any effort toward BR with a grain of salt if Intel is involved.

RIght, Friar! When I come upon a Flash site, unless there's some information I absolutely, positively have to have and can't do without, then I close it and go elsewhere.

Flash sites are a royal waste of time, IMHO.
