If the PSP handheld is not your cup of tea, then perhaps this device would be more suitable. It can directly play WMV9 video files as well as many other types on a 640x480 display. $400.
If this thing had a video IN, be a cool little field monitor wouldn't it ?
I'm always looking for that "laptop computer alternative" to show my work. I got a feeling this isn't the only product in this particular line either. Anyone know of other similar gadgets out there for some comparison shopping ?
Would still like to make the PSP work since my son seems a bit too youg for the one I got him (some say I planned it that way), but I read some forum posts and it made my head hurt. A simple and easy to use tool would be great. I will look into this more. Thanks.
I still like the iRiver units. For only $100 more you can get one that does everything the Zen does, with a bigger hard drive, AND audio/video inputs, avi/mpeg4/wmv/wav/mp3/wma recording, bidirectional transfer to PC with no mucking about with licenses or complex proprietary closed transfer software.
Still like my PSP. As of 08/12/05, US firmware version 2.0 will support H.264 and web browser support. Could either load clips and web onto memory stick or have web server on laptop and preview stuff over wireless.
I was doing some more looking, and it seems that there is a bit of a "holding pattern" on portable video devices. Looks like everyone is waiting to see what Steve ( IPod ) Jobs has got up his sleeve. Industry insiders are sniffing something revolutionary (again) and are wagering Microsoft, and Sony are very curious what they're much smaller but more successful competetor has under his sleeve.
Looking at some vid a client did for his PSP with MPEG 4, it's smokin' killer good. I was shocked. So, looks like the PSP is my route. I have an Archos, and hate it.
