OMEGA, official Timekeeper sponsors of London OLYMPICS, have had a stunning advert created. It's beautifully edited to the Stones "Start Me Up".

It's the whole thing. The spacing of Keith's chords and the breathing of the athletes and the quietest of analogue watch ticking. I've just learnt so much from this.

Every frame is a photograph. Very slick grade styling. Nice well paced moving shots. Very nice.

Thanks for sharing Grazie - some wonderful editing.

I don't think it needed Jagger's voice towards the end - almost spoilt the atmosphere!

I think the listener was waiting for the vocal to start and got what they wanted at the end. Now a close up of Jagger's leathery skin on the other hand would have definitely spoilt the atmosphere.

Great ad.

Awesome images. open g. get it……for the cords wonder if that was on purpose?

Only thing is when I hear Mick’s voice I want it to stop.

Roars? : for the cords wonder if that was on purpose?

Now listen to the original STONES track and "see" the audio edit decisions. Stunning.

Simply, Brilliant
As for Jagger's voice:
Never much of a Stones fan or Jagger's voice but it is as vital an element of the piece as anything. To not have it or to use another voice would be a traversty.

Bob.

For a certainty Bob, Jagger’s voice, song etc are essential for that clip. nice piece of editing all round.

Yep Grazie. Would you say the audio was cut from the original track?

One thing is for sure The Olympic organizers and The Stones made a wack from that.
What a lot of folks don’t realize is that during these big events a glut of lawyers go through the venues and districts and leave a wake of legal claims that rake in millions from whoever and wherever they can. = any breaches are considered not a civil grievance but a criminal offence. The word "2012" is claimed by the IOC. what arrogance.

I've never been mainstream, but my take on the essentiality of the Jagger vocal is that his song has already, and long long ago been used worldwide by Bill Gates for -was it Windows 95 or 98 ? Can't remember!

So the "Start me up" part of the theme was extremely second hand, but the urgency of the Keith Richard riff is what still gets attention, and was used effectively for that very quality in this ad.

I realise that the "expectation", if that's what is was, that we would eventually hear Sir Mick's voice is based on mass predictability - which may be exactly what advertisers depend on, but I am reacting as a musician rather than a marketer.

I prefer subtlety - the "Start me up" part of the message for me would have been stronger by being inferred rather than expressed, and the whole ad could have been done with the instrumental riff .... but I guess adverts need the bleeding obvious!

edit: What a wonderful world - my shortened version of Sir Michael's name has been censored - I don't even know a rude meaning of mick!

In the Windows spot, the vocals come in much sooner than they do on the spot being discussed here (15 sec. mark instead of 50 sec.).

I wonder what audio source they use for ads like this? CD audio or if they get access to the source tapes.
rs170a wrote on 7/23/2012, 9:11 PM
Here's a high res version of it.
Watching it in 1080p is so much better than 360p :)

Thanks for putting the time in Mike. Much appreciated.

It is truly a stunning piece . . . . .

As I said, I learnt so much from it.

The mind and mood thing for me was you would expect to see and anticipate a visual of sport/action taking off etc but you don’t, you get a simple countdown clock cut to brand = very effective mind and mood.

My pleasure Grazie. I knew that there had to be a better version out there and I'm glad I found it.
I agree that it is indeed a phenomenal piece of work and, like you, I have learned a lot from it.

Beautifully done. I'm with you Grazie on the subtle fade in of the analog clock ticking... this vid goes on my inspiration list.

Funny how different people see things differently. For me the anticipation of hearing the vocals came almost a little too late at around the 45 second mark with only 15 seconds left. For me, by then, I was almost loosing interest and feeling that it had gotten a bit redundant. However I did like the audio mix and added embellishments on the song. All things being subjective, for myself I think I would have wanted it around 30-35.
