OT, Paid Streaming Videos.

Hi,
I would like to stream some videos via my site (or other online way).
Ofcourse created with vegas.
But here is the point, I wan't any one watching the video to pay an amount of money. like via paypal or something..
Which is the best way to do this?, some kind of unique password, log-in system or something?.
Is there a software for this, or a special online server system?.
Or do I need a special hardware for this?.
Thanks for any replies.

If it is your own movies you can stream for pay but the MPAA gets involved
if you are streaming "Hollywood" material. They require encryption and some form
of digital rights management. You will need to prove your system before the
major studios will give you access to their material.

Why would MPAA get involved? I thought you need to be a "member" for them to care. If your move was unrated and didn't use their logo's, I didn't think they had anything to say.

Really interested.

He said BUT when you stream movies that are copyrighted the MPAA get involved. If you own the copyright to your movie, then the MPAA cant say anything.

However, think about this for a moment. If you stream and you make money, plan to get hit with a lawsuit from Accaia. Thye have been suing everyone from porno companies to cable providers for patent infringement. Until it gets hammered out in courts, you may want to wait.

If you do decide to go through with it, the first thing you will need to do is protect your content. if you are going to stream in Windows media, you will need to use DRM to protect your files. You would just encode your files with DRM and then everytime your users would want to watch the movie, they would have to authenticate with your licensing server. With DRM, you can decide if the client can play the video once, twice, or forever.

there are many DRM providers out there that will handle the DRM process and authentication for you. Some even collect payments from your customers.

If you plan on streaming in another format, perhaps someone else can give you suggestions.

Thank you for your replies. yes the movies are my own.
And Windows media format is fine.
