I just ran into a really old Panasonic DVD player that had an AV Enhancer button on it. Man, did it mess up my carefully done AC3 audio. I pay a lot of attention to making sure music doesn't overwhelm my voice overs. I ran a DVD I had made with Vegas/DVDA on this old Panasonic and the sound level was all over the map, with the music occasionally flaring to obliterate the VO altogether.
I have played this DVD many times on various Sony players and various laptops with no issues.
After the disastrous performance the owner showed me the AV Enhancer button. We turned it off, and the sound was normal.
What a way to kill a sale...I think I will get a small player and carry it with me for demos from now on.
