Inexpensive compared to what? I got PartitionMagic 8 at BestBuy for pretty cheap...

Partition Magic has worked for me.

Partitionmagic is still the king of the hill.

If cost is an issue (as it always is with me), then a "trick" I figured out a long time ago is to purchased the last version of the software on eBay. You have to make sure that you buy from a VERY reputable dealer (nothing less than 500 transactions, and nothing less than 99.0% positive feedback). You can usually get the product for about 10-20% of the cost of the newest version. Unless you need the very latest features (which you won't for your purposes), this usually works out just great. The download from Symantec of their latest version is $69, but you can get the last version on eBay for about $10-20.

Thanks to all of you.

Any opinions about “Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0”?

I use their disk backup software (after having used four other programs over the past ten years). I like it very much. However, it took a little while to get everything just right. No big deal for backup, but I wouldn't want to have to go through a learning curve when re-partitioning a disk.

I used 7tools Partition Manager late last year to resize/epartition two systems. I had no trouble at all. The cost is 29.95.

If you want something for free you can use Gparted. Download and make the live CD found at http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php I've not used this but my father has. He has a slew of older funky computers and said that this work perfectly on one machine and got harmlessly lost on another. I'd read around the site and look for other comments in google groups before using it. The Live CD is a linux CD but I think it's very specialized so you don't need to know anything about Linux.

I also went with the Acronis package after using Partition Magic as well as Drive Image for years.

The PowerQuest software worked just fine, however, ever since Symantec bought them out, I wanted out.

The Acronis software has worked very well for me, plus Acronis True Image is exponentially faster than Drive Image ever was. I have had no isses with Acronis. Plus, their tech support seems rather responsive when I did have some questions.

Acronis took the place of PowerQuest products just fine.

After seeing johnmeyer's excellent recommendation re partitioning I purchased Acronis Disk Director and also True Image. Both have worked perfectly for me. I use True Image for capturing my OS/Program partition and also for performing my regular data backups.

I have Acronis Disk Director. Worked fine for me. Easy to use. I partitioned by disc and now dual boot, as I need XP for HDV capture, and need Windows 2000 for other applications.

Sounds like I need to get Disk Director. I sure like the TrueImage backup product (I previously used NTI Backup Now, and before that the various incarnations of Seagate/Stomp/Roxio Backup MyPC). I agree that Symantec has absolutely ruined the various products that it has acquired. I would also agree that Acronis' tech support has been unusually good. Some of the best I've come across in a long time. Refreshing.
