OT: Pass through with XL1s

I'm trying to play a dvd-r through my dvd player into my xl1s...and then through the firewire onto the computer. I heard this can be done. But mine isn't working. When I have it in VCR mode all i get in vegas capture is a black screen...however...when i turn to regular record mode..vegas capture show what the camera sees in real time. Why won't it pick up the DVD player? Help please!!

If the camera has AV-DV conversion it usually has to be activated in a menu setting. Check the manual. For example, my Canon has to have AV-DV on, be in camcorder mode, and have no tape cassette in place in order for it to work.
