OT: Perhaps this is a stupid question Jay Gladwell wrote on 10/12/2005, 5:27 AM We know that all DV is compressed when recorded to tape. However, when using a device like DV Rack, is the video signal going to the hard drive being compressed as it is on tape? Back to post
Comments rs170a wrote on 10/12/2005, 6:07 AM Yes Jay, the signal is still compressed. This happens as a function of the camera's electronics, not the recorder. It only records what's fed to it. Mike Jay Gladwell wrote on 10/12/2005, 6:33 AM Thanks, Mike, I wasn't sure where along the way the compression took place. BarryGreen wrote on 10/12/2005, 2:47 PM Correct -- the DV compression takes place in the camera. It is then fed to the tape drive and to the firewire port. So what DV Rack receives (and what the FireStore receives, and what a computer captures) is always the compressed output. 1
