OT: Photoshop CS

Haven't seen anything here about it yet, but I wanted to give a big thumbs up to Photoshop CS. The change between 7 and CS (8) isn't as big as from 6 to 7, but the subtle changes and features are great. There are more presets for broadcast graphics now, including Safe viewing/title guides built in, and incredible file management features that let you find and organize your graphics files in a snap. This feature makes great use of keywords for srting.. perfect when you know you're lower third from that project 6 months ago is somewhere on your hard drive...
I just started usin it this week, but the upgrade is worth it in my opinion. I'd love to hear other folks take on this...

Does it come with any lower thirds already built?

I upgraded from Paint Shop Pro (8), to PS-CS and it's pretty awesome.

...lot to learn though... :)

I like P8. It's a tool that most of us could use better and more often in our productions. Rich Harrington's book really helps cover this well, and has a special section just for Vegas, written by our own Dr. Dropout.
I was expecting more of an upgrade, but it's got some nice features oriented towards DV, mostly because of the Encore aspect of it all.

I bought it because it has a raw converterr built in that really works nice and supports my Canon 10D.

An excellent book on PS 7 is "Photoshop 7 Artistry" by Barry Haynes I am sure the new Ps user would find this very useful for learning PS.

Brian,

I just recently upgraded from Photoshop 5.0.2 to Photoshop 7.0.1 and qualified for the free upgrade to Photoshop CS, which I received a few days ago (there was a shipping charge of about $5). Since Photoshop CS will not run on Win98SE, I will use Photoshop 7.0.1 until I do the upgrade to XP Pro, at which time I will install my Photoshop CS.

Photoshop 7.0.1 is a big jump up from my Photoshop 5.0.2. I am keeping Photoshop 5.0.2 on my system because I have plug-ins that I like (like Xaos Tools' Segmation) that won't work with later versions of Photoshop. I am looking forward to Photoshop CS.

I agree with the census so far. Photoshop CS has great enhancements for the Video user.

Now if we could just get some of those Auto Levels and Auto Color grading features as a plug in for Vegas.

I just bought the Photoshop CS upgrade and I'm very impressed as well. It seems to run faster as well and the enhancements are great. The more I learn PS the more I am amazed at what it can do. It can now export layers to files which is very useful for bringing multi layer files into Vegas.

Rex...

Have you tried converting your 10D RAW files with C1 or C1LE?
For my money, C1LE gives a MUCH better result than PSCS.

Kentwolf:

What do you gain going from PSP8 to Photoshop? I've gotten pretty decent with PSP, and when I hear people rave about Photoshop I have to cringe a little, since for some reason I really dislike the whole Adobe interface. Maybe because years ago I toyed around with a very early version of Premiere, and was baffled. But then, I'm pretty easily baffled.

riredale - I agree - to me, PSP is the Vegas of the still kingdom - superb value at a great price.

so I'd also be interested to hear from you, Kentwolf, as to the big improvements in PS CS.

Bill---I tried it--works great--now the only question is does it warrant me opening up the wallet--LOL---
