OT: Please Help, Last Day

MUTTLEY wrote on 1/13/2010, 9:30 AM

I so hate posting and begging for votes but today is the last day for voting in the Nikon 140 Second Film Festival. For those who missed it we were one of fifty selected out of over 1000 to compete. Since day one we've been floating in the Top 10, more often than not in the Top 3 and its been shuffling back and forth. It's basically come down to a foot race and every vote and view makes a difference. You don't have to sign up to vote, just click the link where to the one page little site we set up that has a simple graphic to show how to vote (theyre using stars but it doesnt have any text that says "Vote Here" and a lot of people were looking at it.

They are judging the Audience Award by plays and votes. You only have to sign up if you want to leave a comment. Theyre going by IP so you can only vote once per device (as in once per computer, cell phone etc). Upshot of all this is I need a TON of votes and views by tonight! It ends at 11:59 p.m. ET. Please pass it on if you know anyone who might be willing to watch and toss it 5 stars. The Audience Award is 25k which would be HUGE to me and all that worked on it. Through cross your fingers because the Jury Award is 100k! Honestly I've never had a 1 in 50 shot at either of those amounts. So here's the link, thanks so much, and real sorry to have to ask.

Our Entry "Drama" for the Nikon Fest

Thanks so much all!

Just seems like it would be more honest to post a link to ALL the Videos instead of asking us to vote for you because you post in this forum as there are some really cool entries that I feel rival yours:

Your Life in 140Seconds or Less

MUTTLEY wrote on 1/13/2010, 1:07 PM

... huh? Not sure how that would be more "honest", I "honestly" want to win! As Nikon has said on their Twitter "Just 2 days left to rally votes & get that 25k... Have you told all your followers to vote for your @NikonFestival movie? Go go go!"

They didnt say to go tell everyone to vote for other peoples work?

again ... huh?

In other words he's not asking us to vote for the most deserving, he's asking us to vote for his. (Unless they happen to be one and the same)

A talented and likable member of the forum has a chance to win anywhere from $25k to $100k and all it takes is for you to click on a couple of links to help him achieve that goal. Personally, I don't care if his movie was up against Avatar, I'd still vote for Ray's movie just to help him out. (Besides, I think Ray needs the money more than James Cameron.)

I'm with John on this. Ray just asking forum members for their votes,, no crime in asking or begging if that's your spin. This has been done many times by other individuals, so give a Ray a break, maybe a vote. Review the others, if you are so impress with their work vs Ray, then vote or don't vote.

They're obviously keeping track of IP numbers. I tried to clear my Browser History and vote twice but it wouldn't let me.

On the subject of ASKING for votes... politicians do it all the time. You're actually going to try and tell me a politician lays out his opponent's pluses/bonuses... just to be "fair"???

I see no wrong here.

Seems to me that Ray is asking us to look at his video and, if we like it, to vote for it. No problem.

I voted for you Ray.

You get my vote Muttley, both because it's a film full of resonance in these days of gangs and bullying and because you are "one of ours."

Good Luck,

Richard

I voted. The only time I would see a conflict is if there were entries from two forum members.
MUTTLEY wrote on 1/14/2010, 12:21 PM

Thanks all! voting has ended, we are in third according to voting though Nikon has said that they are taking other things into account and that the number one for votes is not necessarily the winner of the audience award. I believe it has to do with views, not sure. The one in first blew everyone out of the water by getting Bam Margera and Tony Hawk to Tweet his link asking people to vote. Between the two of those alone they have around 3 million followers on Twitter, hard to compete with that!

Have no idea when their going to announce the Audience & Jury awards, not holding my breath but still crossing my fingers. =)

Thanks again!

Good luck Ray. Let us know how you make out. Are there any consolation prizes?
MUTTLEY wrote on 1/15/2010, 11:05 AM

I think there are two consolation prizes but could be wrong. Nikon d5000, which sadly only shoots 720p.

Not sure why you would antagonize or try to rub salt in a wound Terry but thanks for the heads up.

WHOA, misunderstanding here! I was not trying to rub salt or any other kind of seasoning in. I was just trying to explain that I had voted for your video (very nicely done BTW) even though I had thrown in my obviously minority opinion about voting in a contest. If it is a popularity contest then let it be stated as such and let the contestants ask to be voted for. If its a contest that is supposed to be decided on merit then lets watch the entries and vote for what you consider the best. Too many times people or videos or candidates are voted for because of popularity (or money) rather than the quality of what they can do. Think about your cheer leaders in high school or governors!
MUTTLEY wrote on 1/15/2010, 6:39 PM

Sorry if I misinterpreted, and yes, this was designed as a popularity contest which is why its no coincidence the one who got famous people to ask for votes is in first with voting. Im not complaining, as a matter of fact on their Facebook page when someone did complain I took up for the NY video I took up for him as Nikon said all along to do what you can to get votes. Obviously they're angle to do this was to promote themselves so I can't fault them for the structure and don't mind the way things turned out. I've seen others where this wasnt the case and where they were much stricter about policing down voting. Would have been nice if Nikon had, and would have been nice if they would have required registering to vote, would have at least cut down on some of the chaos.

Anyway, if I jumped the gun and misunderstood I apologize. A bit defensive in this thread after getting my "honesty" attacked for asking people to vote for my own entry.

Thanks for the reply;

- Ray
