FYI, Collier County (right next to Lee County where Patrick works) and I think Lee County are actively working on a plan to make it more affordable for teachers to work in Southwest Florida. They really need teachers down here so I hope their plans work and they can attract and retain good teachers.
Hey guys, new job is working out ok. I love my classes (save one...freshmen. Nedd I say more?)
Weather is gorgeous (80 and sunny every day). Housing? Wow. EXPENSIVE. I seriously dont know how they expect teachers to ever afford anything here. Houses minimum I have seen $300k. The 2 bedroom condo I rent now goes for $3500/mo but with my discount I get it for $1200/mo. Still not cheap on a teachers salary.
Administration here is awesome. Lee County has a program this summer that should allow me to finish up all of my requirements for my professional ceritifcation at Edison College.
Other than that, still trying to learn the ropes but I get a lot of support from others in the Business department. Finally getting the senior class to work on the school website.
All in all, one of the better decisions I have made. Working closely with the TV Production teacher (shes new also) and turning her on to Vegas currently.
Only thing that sucks about this job is that I dont ever get to spend as much time on this forum as I used to but then again, I never got paid by posting like I do here. LOL.
Thank you for asking. All is well here. Kind of like a dream. I'll need to get some copies of Vic's book "Stop Whining" and make it required reading for all of my freshmen.
I had some more freshmen whine today about the time I make them return from lunch. So I have decided that I am going to spring for a couple of your books and next time they start whining, Im going to make them read it and write a paper on it. May not change their attitude but it will definitely make them think twice the next time.
Thanks everyone for all the kind words.
Possible good news: May be buying a house over in Lehigh Acres. Will find out in a couple days if we got approved.
