OT: Presario Laptops, any experiences?

Gang,

As I mentioned earlier, I'm looking for a killer laptop to edit video on the road. I'll be on the road for a year straight, and for that reason I'll be using the laptop A LOT.

Anyway, I happened upon one of the newer Presario laptops, the R3430, at Comp USA and really liked it (which surprised me, because traditionally I've never liked the Compaq look and feel). Great keyboard, nice layout, moderately priced, and a big and bright and BEAUTIFUL screen. Seriously, this laptop has a stunning screen.

Also, you can outfit the Presario with either a P4 or an Athlon 64, which would be great for editing.

Does anyone have any experience with Presario laptops? Or has anyone heard any second-hand stories from others? I'm leaning toward this particular line, so now's the time to hear the horror stories (if there are any).

Thanks,
Scott

Rudy Sarzo had a nightmare experience with one, but that was nearly 6 months ago, so old news.
Have you looked at the Sony K series? Very nice. I just bought one. Nicest screen I've seen anywhere.

ZDNet was kind of cool on the Vaio K. Not sure if that says more about Sony or more about ZDNet, but it does make me hesitate before more seriously considering Sony.

I am also lookng at a laptop, considering Sony VGN 290 or 690, but seem to be overpriced. Also looking at HP ZD8080, but a few concerns native res. at 1440x900 and hard drive at 4200RPM.

I asked last week, what is the best hard drive speed for laptop machines: is 7200 too hot? is 5400 fast enough and what is ideal cache?

Regarding Sony, I have read over the last couple of years of compatibility issues with Vegas... is it still the case?

Thanks for any input
