OT: Pulsing/waving in EX-1 60p footage (anyone?)

FrigidNDEditing wrote on 4/18/2010, 8:38 PM
Hey guys, I just borrowed an EX-1 and shot some 60p the other day, and found a problem in that the 60p had some sort of pulsing/waving in the footage.

Has anyone else ever seen this? Is it normal?

(edit: not just in 60p footage I guess, I see it in some 1080 30p footage as well)

with a bit more searching than I really like to do, I found that others have experienced this also, and it's caused by having the "reduce flicker" set to auto/on rather than turning it on when you need it.

Just a word to the wise for anyone who has experienced/wondered what's up.

Dunno if it's with the new firmware or what, but that's supposed to fix the problem.

The latest firmware sets Flicker Reduction to Off after a Reset All.

Make certain no one has turned it back on in the menu.

I've found that applying a small amount of Mike Crash's Noise Reduction filter can do wonders with this sort of thing, without introducing a lot of ghosting or reducing the resolution by much. I had some shots with LED lighting that refreshed at an odd rate that were smoothed out quite nicely using this filter.

Turning off Flicker Reduction will fix it completely without having to fiddle with any plugins and/or the artifacts they might/can introduce.

I wasn't arguing that point, Jay. Unfortunately turning off flicker reduction can't be applied retroactively.

No one's arguing.

He didn't say anything about trying to repair his footage. He was asking what caused the problem and provided a sample.

And this is a thread where the keywords might pop up for some poor sap in the future that needs to know how to fix what he's got, as well as prevent it from re-occurring.
Arguing about trivial stuff on the internet is exactly like this great video...

No it isn't.
