OT: QUESTION FOR EVERYONE

Jay Gladwell wrote on 9/18/2003, 9:40 AM
As I read the topics, from time to time, I see that someone has done this or that, using this or that product (including Vegas!). There have been many times I would have liked to have been able to contact that person, via e-mail or telephone, to discuss the specific topic and/or product in greater detail, but can't.

My question is, have any of the rest of you felt the same? Are any of you--would any of you--be interested in swapping e-mail addresses and/or telephone numbers?

Just a thought.

I know a lot of other messageboards I use have "profiles" in which the person can put any personal information like e-mail addresses, phone numbers, computer specs etc.. in them so that people can look at them and contact that person if they want to. Another thing I have seen on other boards is Private Messages, when you go to the site and log in it says you have a private message and then you can communicate with someone privately without it having to be on the board.
I know I would be more likely to give out my e-mail address in a private message than to post it on the board.

Just a couple ideas to concider.

Yes. In fact just a few days ago I was checking someone's profile to get their email. I wanted to send a thank you without cluttering up the forum. However, the user's contact information is hidden. I know I've added my email and website to my own profile. I did so assuming it would be available to other users. Why would the profile form ask for this information if it was not going to be made available to other users? I would prefer a forum policy that would allow users to make their email/phone/website available if they so choose.

As for my phone number, I'll give you that after we've exchanged an email and decided what we're going to talk about :-)

Most of the forums don't require you to put this info in your profile, but you can if you want to so others can contact you. That is why I like the private message option better, you don't have to give out your e-mail address, but people can still contact you privately if they wish.

Maybe someone could just post a Vegas forum page with handles & email addresses of those who wouldn't mind the direct exchange. It would have to be clear that it was for follow-up or elaboration only, otherwise people like Kelly, Jet & Bill would be inundated with direct questions (if they chose to be put on the list).

I agree, though...there are often those little follow-up, "Hey, Jack, I see you use X, what do yoyu like about it?" comments that would be more efficiant if they were done directly.

Maybe we could put a page up on Vegasusers? I wouldn't mind throwing a page together and putting it up on one of my sites, either.

There already is a webpage at:

http://www.vegasusers.com/whereareyou/listall

Gives you a place to list your city, email and website.

The forums at vegasusers.com also have rather extensive profiles with contact information. Once you've registered you can search and view other users' profiles. There aren't many people registered there yet though.

I used to have my e-mail available, but that lasted one day.
The day after my first posting on the Sonic Foundry forums I came home and found someone asking me for my serial number.
He didn't get it.

Dumb question here, but what does the abreviation OT stand for?

I've seen Grazie use that quite a few times.

Ciao,

Paul.
