OT: Question on Sony Support for DVD Burners...

I'm want to buy a Sony DRU-710A burner, but have a question about their support.

up until now, I've had the HP DVD30i (which I wore out). Every time I would have a problem, I'd send an e-mail off & get a reply in less then 24 hours. They also didn't mail me back with the "what is your OS, what's your RAM, what's your CPU, etc." They answered my question the first time, or if they needed more info, they would ask for more detail.

If I had a problem with the Sony burner, is the Sony support as good? Support is important to me, and I can get the HP burner for a little cheaper then the Sony one.

Anyone with experience (basicly, the support will be the deciding factor for me)?

My guess is that you'll be asking your questions here.

That would really, really suck. :( (not that i don't like psoting here, but the support from HP was as good as sonic foundrys)

Anyway.. any ever have to contact sony support for a DVD burner?

I shouldn't be so hard on them. I was use to Sonic Foundrys great responses too. It probably won't be to hard to go to a Sony DVD burner anyway, because I don't imagine you'll have that many questions, now that you've had plenty of experience recording already. I learned on my Pioneer A05, which had 'Sonic MyDVD' "limited software. Pioneer beat around the bush about the limitations of the MyDVD software for a while, then suggested trying the Ulead trials, which I did. Then I tried TMPGEnc's, when they first released it, and when I finally got to Vegas, I felt pretty sure that almost any brand would be fairly easy to get the hang of. (I hate learning new hardware, but I get the feeling that Sony's probably works pretty easy and good.)

I've used HP alot, but now refer the Sony DVD line. If you buy an OEM drive, like sony's 18u, it will be about 1/3 to 1/2 cheaper than retail model, 710. Many online stores,ie Newegg.com can ship fast and cheap.

I don't need to worry much about cost since I got a fre $205 gift card from circuit city (because they couldn't replace my drive they refunded me my money). So, I got the Sony DRU-710A.

I doubht i'll use 8x DVD (I have 200 4x Ridata's I just got 2 weeks ago!) or duel layer, but it's nie to have. :)
