OT: Questions about Ipod and PSP

Ok, I have a client I am consulting with currently and their desire is to make their content available online exclusively in IPOD and PSP. I have in the past, turned this client on to Vegas so my client is looking to author from Vegas.

Now since I have niether device, I am unable to figure out which, if any, profile Sony offers is Ipod compatible. Has anyone discovered ths yet?

Also, client is not too keen on the naming format for PSP videos (cant say i disagree.) His point is if he has a bunch of files named MV4..... etc... it will be easy to make a mistake and perhaps offer the wrong content. Now, if he renders using his own naming scheme, (i.e. movie.mp4), when users transfer it to their ipods, will the Media Manager or whatever they use to transfer files to PSP conform the names for them without subjecting the content to a second encoding process?

That said, I sincerely hope these issues are addressed in the Vegas 6d update. It can only help spur sales of the PSP devices if there was more content out there for PSP. I can understand not pushing Ipod sales but it would be nice to be able to offer content for Ipods without having to go through their entirely crappy QT encoder.

Any suggestions?

Just to chime in on the M4V------ naming thing - Is this really the only way to have the PSP see these vid files. It's been the only way I can get it to work.

The PSP is a very cool device (got one for christmas, hurray! & the screen is incredible!) but putting video on this puppy, without using the $20 interface from Sony, is rather clunky. I also find it hard to believe that Sony is charging $20 bucks for this software while itunes is free.

Also the price for UMD movies seems a bit out of whack to me -

just a quick .02

Patrick,
None of the mpeg 4 profiles in Vegas worked for me going into the ipod. The only way that worked with out a hitch is to render out in QT 7 "export" "-movie to ipod" , cant help you on the PSP.
but Itried all different combo's in Vegas but none would be recognized in i tunes when you got to import it, unless it was rendered via QT 7.

Thats what I figured. I tried turning him on to MeGUI as it has profiles that support Ipod and PSP yet he refuses to take the "free" open source way and insists on paying for a solution.

Maybe Sony will make us all happy with V6d. Any idea when that is coming out? I was pretty sure we have had xd versions early in the past few years. NAB is when this year?
