OT: R.I.P. Dennis Hopper

I just found out that Dennis Hopper has passed away, he had been sick for quite some time. I'm pretty sad about this, I knew Dennis and considered him a friend. He was a thoughtful and cultured man. I originally met him through my ex-wife, Andrea, who had been good friends with him and his family since the early 1970s in Taos, New Mexico. Here is a photo of him in Taos in 1976, Andrea is in the middle right behind him.

Time to get out my copy of Easy Rider and watch it again.
It's also a sad reminder of a good reason for us "old farts" (50+) to get a PSA test in conjunction with a full medical every year.

He was amazing in Hoosiers.

And Mike, I think that's a great idea about the PSA.

Thanks DGates.
On my doctor's advice, I started getting the test yearly once I turned 50.
It's even more important to me as my dad had prostate cancer (and was successfully cured) a number of years ago.

I'm 45, so I should be thinking along those lines as well.

Keep in mind that it needs to be a two-part test with the 'digital' test (i.e. bend over) being the other half as the PSA test by itself is not conclusive.

John, sorry for sidetracking this thread but, in light of what happened to Dennis, I feel that this is important.

Yeah, I just turned 60 (today actually). Don't forget to get the colonoscopy also - while the prep for it is not overly fun, it sure can save your life. (Check out Dave Barry's article on getting the test :-) )

Very funny AND very important.

I don't mind a bit. Prostate cancer also took one of my other heroes, Frank Zappa.

Happy birthday Mike!!
A birthday on a long holiday weekend.
How convenient is that :-)
I've always enjoyed Dave Barry and that article was one of his best.
