OT Raid rescue

Well after my MB crash i have replaced it w a new MB and quad processor. after a few hiccups in the installation process. new board had ancient bios that wouldnt support the new Q6600 GO proc. i got most things up and working with one sort of significant obsticle. on my old system I had 4 Sata Drives 1 boot 1 data and 2 striped raid 0. new board uses a diferent raod controller and doesnt recognize the raid drives. ..i can set it to look at ALL the sata drives as raid but then if i configure it will erase all data on that raid array.

Is there any way to recover that raid ie with an external housing or something?
I stuck with the same ASUS MB brand but as it figures they use a different raid controller on the new board.
And of course the old probalem my BU of that raid is like 6mo old( i know Iknow)

How was the raid created - hardware (m/board) or O/S (windows)?

i wanna say MB.

I wanna say "oh dear"

Short of getting a m/board like you had, and trying to restore the raid then I don't know what to suggest. hopefully someone else will have a better idea for you.

Kinda what I was afraid of...
well in case there is anyone out there with a system with an ASUS A8N32-SLI MB (mine was equiped w an AMD 64X2 4400) w 939 socket I might be willing to trade thier rescue abilities for my old processor....
anybody?

I HAD the same ASUS A8N32-SLI MB and processors and when my RAID controller went out my heart sank that I would lose all my data.
The repair shop had me run out and buy a huge ext hard drive and they managed to copy my whole RAID inventory on to the ext HD and then we changed out the MB , RAID controller, CPU to Quad, memory and a whole lot more.
If there's any way this could work for you at this point it might be worth a try.
Good Luck, I know the feeling!

Hi

I think you should look at the chipset of the raid controller, which should be this "NVIDIA nForce4 SLI X16 Southbridge" according to asus website.

I think if you find a PC with a board with the same chipset for raid, you might be lucky enogh to get it to recognize the drives.

On asus site you will find a webboard too for technical questions. Might be good to post there to see if one expert could give you a hint reg. this too.

Wish you the best for the project.

at this point my plan is to find and old computer case. install a temp HDD and use Acronis disk image to copy my last C drive image to (did that just last week) to the temp HDD, assemble bare bones system w my old MB and proc and memory.I was able to get it to boot and not crash a few times. then install the raid drives and do like you guys suggested...see if i can keep it alaive to trans fer the raid contents over. fortunatly there is no current projects on it. but i kept a lot of stock Video files ie logo's premade bumpers etc on there. if i loose them i would just have to recreate them. not the end of the world but "i got better things to do"..

so we'll see.
really i just want to get back up and running to see what this Quad baby can do.!

With my similar situation to get back to functional would have cost about $1300 and I decided to just bite the bullet and upgrade instead of replace parts. For another $700 worth of processors, memory , MB (they discontinued that model I was told), etc and ended up with the much coveted Quad 6600 and once I've had the chance to work with it on some Vegas projects it makes me smile....it really is sooo much faster.
Hope your luck holds and you get to make the leap real soon, it will be worth your current 'trials and tribulations'.....

Yup thats basicly what I did, upgraded to the Q6600 quad and new MB. still reloading programs and such but a couple of quick tests in Vegas looks like it will be zippity quick!

You may want a seatbelt for that much improved speed factor!
