I respectfully disagree. I know a ton of people who loved seeing the play and with the amount of hype and commercials in my area, I think they are positioned to turn a mint on this one. The trailer for it was excellently done as well.
Musicals don't generally do well at the box office. Although "Chicago" did well, so who knows?
As far as it being edited on Vegas 6, I think that it would've been posted in this forum already if it were true. Much like the news about "Cold Mountain" being edited on FCP was known well in advance of the movie's release.
I'd be pretty surprised if "Rent" was cut on Vegas. Rick McKay has been held up as a top-tier FCP user. He is indeed a "bedroom editor" though. Super guy, heard him speak at a couple of conferences.
A quick Google didn't tell me anything about how he shot "Rent" though. Coulda been Varicam, HDCAM, or something along those lines.
Shot on Kodak Vision2 500T 5218 and Vision 250D 5205, Super 35 2.35:1. The new MK-V Alien Revolution camera stabilizer gets a good rap from the operator on this shoot, anyone that can work with 90 pounds of gear strapped to their body is not someone to mess with!
Just to get an idea of the scale of a medium budget film, three digital 4K negs will be struck to produce the planned 3,000 release prints. The idea is that all prints will be of the same quality.
Now, when are we going to be able to open a Cineon file in Vegas ?
Come to think of it, why can't we?
Bob.
When production of The Bourne Supremacy arrived at Studio Babelsberg in Berlin, a virtual clone of the editing room used by co-editors Rick Pearson and Christopher Rouse followed close behind. Rental house Runway Inc., Los Angeles, airlifted four Avid Meridian Media Composer stations, an Avid Unity server system with 2TB of storage, and special 32in. flatscreen monitors, as well as exact replicas of the furniture used by the film's editors in Los Angeles — “the largest shipment of equipment our company has ever attempted,” according to Rick Lee, Runway's director of sales.
"The musical adaptation of the Broadway hit "Rent" opened at No. 5 with $10.7 million, and $18.1 million since Wednesday -- below expectations of a $20 million-$25 million range during the five-day period."
