OT: Replace CF Card reader - Advice?

Grazie wrote on 3/14/2012, 1:43 PM
OK, I was st-upid and bent pins on a £3 quid PC Bay multi reader. . . OK . . I have my eye on a replacement Lexmar USB3 reader.

Any suggestions? Would my Sandisk UDMA CF 60mb/sec take advantage of a USB3? I have a USB3 port on my PC.

TIA

Grazie

Hi G

I have the lexar USB 3 and I think it is faster than my old USB 2 also lexar.

Yes, Ulf, the LEXAR! That's the one. So it works on this CF UDMAs nicely, huh?

Righto....

yep, i have this one too. When i first got it, the two side buttons that lock the top lid down were jammed - bad plastic finish. But after a few tries, it freed off ok.
Apart from the plastic 'issue' that cleared, its great. I use it for SDHC and CF cards, reads very fast through USB3 compaired to 2.

I have this one from Transcend. Inexpensive. I've used it to read SD, CF, and MS Pro cards. It is speedy - so fast that the card's speed is the limiting factor.

I'm not saying it is better than the Lexar, since I've not tried the Lexar. Just wanted to add another one to the mix.

Thanks Guys.

Got on the Amazon site. Read loads of positive feedback about the LEXAR. Good price and I'll go with a longer cable too.

Cheers

been using a scandisk firewire 'extreme' cf reader for years - excellent and very, very fast...

Oh my eye!!!!

Plugged in the Lexar, Bosh! Done. That was it. I almost feel cheated that I didn't have to do any more than that.

My Canon Utility for MXF import, leapt onto the screen as if on steroids, and displayed over 100 1920x1080i 422 clips instantaneously. This USB3 stuff is swifter than runny snot through a calendar!

Very pleased. Now, all I need is an equally stable, non-chokable NLE to edit on.

Thanks Guys
