OT- REVEAL lightbulbs and auto-balance

Nothing earth-shattering, but as one who is still using a Sony Hi-8 with no way to manually white balance, I had a nice side benefit from installing new light bulbs in my house. Used to be, shooting with the existing lighting in my house, the footage would be orange due to a lack of white balance adjustment (I tried powering up the Hi-8 while pointing it at a white surface, as some have suggested, but it doesn't really work). Changing the light bulbs in my house to GE's REVEAL line made all the difference. Colors are not PERFECT, but pretty darn close to normal, and for hobbyist purposes, don't need color correction anymore (just for transferring footage to DVD for easier/faster viewing).

I recommend them highly!

If you want to get close to daylight then use daylight fluros. To avoid flicker use HF ballasts with them. Even for house lighting there are several advantages
1. The advantages of fluro lighting over incandescant
2. Better color rendition not just for video, you can actually see all the colors inside your house.

Sylvania and others also make bulbs similar to the Reveal by GE. Now that competition has erupted on the scene, the prices have dropped aoub 50% during the last year alone. Love it.
